Product Description

Composition
Each ml of the clear, colorless, and sterile solution contains 4.27 mg Atipamezol, equivalent to 5.0 mg Atipamezol HCl. It also contains 1 mg of Methyl Paraben Sodium (E 219) as an antimicrobial preservative.

Atipamezol hydrochloride is used in dogs and cats to reverse the sedative and cardiovascular effects of α2-agonists such as medetomidine and dexmedetomidine.

– Dogs: Atipamezol is injected intramuscularly. The optimal dose in micrograms per kilogram is five times the previous medetomidine dose or ten times the previous dexmedetomidine dose. The reversal dose in milliliters is the same as the dose of medetomidine 1 mg/ml or dexmedetomidine 0.5 mg/ml. The reversal dose for dexmedetomidine 0.1 mg/ml is one-fifth of the volume. The product can also be used post-surgery to reverse the effects of medetomidine or dexmedetomidine and accelerate recovery, especially when combined with butorphanol or used during pre-anesthesia with thiopental-halothane or propofol in dogs.

– Cats: Atipamezol is injected intramuscularly. The optimal dose in micrograms per kilogram is 2.5 times the previous medetomidine dose or 5 times the previous dexmedetomidine dose. The reversal dose in milliliters is half of the dose for medetomidine 1 mg/ml or dexmedetomidine 0.5 mg/ml, and one-tenth of the dose for dexmedetomidine 0.1 mg/ml.

Dog:

Medetomidin dose Deksmedetomidin 0.5 mg/ml dose Deksmedetomidin 0.1 mg/ml dose Reversal dose
40 mcg/kg 20 mcg/kg 20 mcg/kg 200 mcg/kg
= 0.4 ml/10 kg = 0.4 ml/10 kg = 2.0 ml/10 kg = 0.4 ml/10 kg

Cat:

Medetomidin dose Deksmedetomidin 0.5 mg/ml dose Deksmedetomidin 0.1 mg/ml dose Reversal doz
80 mcg/kg 40 mcg/kg 40 mcg/kg 200 mcg/kg
= 0.4 ml/5 kg = 0.4 ml/5 kg = 2.0 ml/3 kg* = 0.2 ml/5 kg, 0.12 ml/3 kg

For cats weighing over 3 kg, **dexmedetomidine 0.5 mg/ml** is recommended. The dose in micrograms per kilogram should not exceed four times the previously administered medetomidine dose or eight times the previously administered dexmedetomidine dose.
In cases where medetomidine or dexmedetomidine is used for anesthesia in cats, either with or without butorphanol and ketamine, this product can be used to reverse the effects of medetomidine or dexmedetomidine and accelerate recovery post-anesthesia.
In this scenario, the dosage of the veterinary product for recovery will be the same as the one used after a single administration of medetomidine or dexmedetomidine, but the product should not be administered earlier than 30 to 40 minutes after ketamine administration.
